Juan Andres Nava

Appointed Director General for Global Trade at ECZA in January 2023, Mr. Nava has had an extensive career in the Private and public sector. His main areas of experience has always centered on international trade and political economy.

Mr. Nava began his career in 2001 at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries of Argentina as a student practitioner during his last academic year at the University of Buenos Aires; to later become in 2004 the Head of WTO office at the Secretary of Agribusiness Markets. During 2008 and 2009 he was appointed as a trade and investment expert at the Argentinian Mission to the WTO in Geneva, Switzerland.

In 2010 Mr. Nava returned to Argentina; he was appointed Senior Adviser reporting directly to the Minister of Economy of Argentina where he handled very critical dossiers like the FTA negotiations MERCOSUR – EU and the Non-Automatic Import License regime.

From 2014 to 2017 Mr. Nava was designated Economic Attache to the EU in Brussels, where he served as Senior Negotiator of the EU MERCOSUR Agreement, chapter on goods, special products, tariff reduction schedules, sensitive products, and exclusions from the agri-food sector. During this post he was also designated Focal Point with DG Trade, DG Agri and DG DEVCO, and put in charge of the cooperation projects.
